However, to give you a basic understanding of how it all works, metropolitan Melbourne is divided into two transport zones; zones 1 and 2. Zone 1 is the inner circle, while zone 2 is the doughnut surrounding zone 1. Zone 1 fares for adults are $6.80 for a day or $29.40 for a week. Zone 1 and 2 fares for adults are $10.60 for a day or $49.60 for a week. This includes travel on all trains, buses and trams within that zone.
There are a variety of concession and saver fares also so you should check these out. For example, you can travel all day Sunday within zones 1 and 2 for only $3.10 on a Sunday Saver Ticket.
